It should be noted that, as agreed at the Retreat of the PSC held in Dakar, Senegal, in July 2007, to discuss the working methods of the Council, a new list of PSC members is to be elaborated following each election of PSC members. The line up of the rotating chairpersons of the PSC is to be drawn on the basis of that new list. V. ACTIVITIES OF THE PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL 7. During the period under review, the PSC held 30 meetings, which took place at ambassadorial level at the Headquarters of the Union, to consider various conflict situations and related issues. Among the meetings were briefing sessions to receive updates on various situations and issues, at the end of which no decisions were taken. As is the established practice of the PSC, in conformity with the provisions of the PSC Protocol, the countries and other stakeholders concerned with a given issue were invited to some of these meetings and briefing sessions. a) Meetings on conflict situations and related issues 8. Between July 2007 and January 2008, the PSC considered the conflict situations in the following countries: The Sudan (Darfur, Southern Sudan), Central African Republic (CAR), Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, The Comoros, Somalia and Kenya. The list of meetings held by the PSC during the period and the issues discussed, as well as the outcomes of those meetings, are reflected on Annex A attached to this Report. 9. Furthermore, at its 98th meeting held on 23 November 2007, in which the United Nations participated, the PSC made a contribution to the report of the United Nations Secretary-General, on cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations within the context of Chapter VIII of the Charter of the United Nations. The report is to be submitted in pursuance of the Presidential Statement of the United Nations Security Council of 28 March 2007, on the relationship between the United Nations and Regional Organisations, in particular the African Union, in the maintenance of international peace and security. b) Briefing sessions 10. Between July 2007 and January 2008, the PSC held 18 briefing sessions as reflected in Annex A attached to this Report, with a view to receiving updates on issues falling under its mandate. As is the established practice, no decisions were taken by the PSC during the briefing sessions. However, press statements were issued as a record of the discussions and outcomes, as also reflected in Annex A.
