VOTE OF CONGRATULATIONS TO THE OUTGOING
SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN UNITY (OAU).
The Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of
African Unity, meeting in its Nineteenth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,
from 6 to 12 June, 1983,
Considering the Introductory Statement to the Activities report made by the
Secretary-General on 9 June 1983,
Considering the positive changes effected within the General Secretariat so as to
enhance its effectiveness, under the direction of Mr. Edem Kodjo,
Noting with satisfaction the honesty and moral integrity with which Mr. Edem
Kodjo fulfilled his mission,
Noting further that his mission was aimed at a genuine recognition of PanAfricanism and the definition of practical measures for an authentic development of the
continent based on its own values, its specificities and the assertion of its dignity:
1. TAKES NOTE of the Introductory Statement contained in document
AHG/107 (XIX) made by Mr. Edem Kodjo, the outgoing Secretary-General,
on 9 June 1983;
2. CONSIDERS the basic method of reflection introduced by Mr. Edem Kodjo
at the Head of the General Secretariat which led particularly to the Monrovia
Symposium and the adoption of the Lagos Plan of Action and Final Act, as a
highly positive contribution to the development of Africa in all areas of
human endeavor;
3. PAYS SPECIAL TRIBUTE to Mr. Edem Kodjo for the effective manner in
which he fulfilled his mission and for his dedication to the cause of Africa and
the ideal of Pan-Africanism.
