PSC/PR/COMM(CCXXXIV)   Page 1    COMMUNIQUE OF THE 234th MEETING  OF THE PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL    The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), at its 234th meeting held 28 June 2010, considered the situation in Côte d'Ivoire and adopted the following decision: Council, 1. Takes note of the report of the Chairperson of the Commission on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire since the signing of the Ouagadougou Political Agreement [PSC/PR/2 (CCXXXIV)], and the statements made by the representatives of the Ivorian Government, the Facilitator (Burkina Faso), ECOWAS and the UN; 2. Expresses its concern at the lack of progress in the process of ending the crisis in Côte d'Ivoire since its meeting on 3 May 2010. Council stresses, once more, the need for the Ivorian parties to engage in dialogue and to put the interest of Côte d'Ivoire and its people above all other considerations in order to complete the process of ending the crisis and to implement the commitments made under the Ouagadougou Political Agreement and its Supplementary Agreements; 3. Urges the Independent Electoral Commission and the concerned Ivorian parties to agree, without delay, on an election calendar and remain committed to organize the presidential election in 2010. Council stresses the need for the parties to promote a climate conducive to the holding of open, free, fair and transparent elections; 4. Reiterates its appreciation to President Blaise Compaore, the Facilitator of the interIvorian dialogue, for his tireless efforts towards the full implementation of the Ouagadougou Political Agreement and its Supplementary Agreements and encourages him to continue and intensify his efforts towards the speedy resolution of obstacles impeding the holding of elections in 2010; 5. Expresses its appreciation to all members of international community, in particular ECOWAS, the United Nations and the European Union, for their contribution to the process of ending the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire. In this context, Council stresses the role of UNOCI in this crucial phase of the evolution of the process to end the crisis in Côte d'Ivoire and urges the Ivorian parties to extend their full cooperation to the Mission; 6. Decides to dispatch a mission of the Peace and Security Council to Côte d’Ivoire and the region to assess the situation with a view to further contributing to the process of ending the crisis; 7. Decides to remain actively seized with the matter.
