Assembly/AU/Dec.97(VI) DECISION ON THE DROUGHT SITUATION IN THE IGAD SUB-REGION The Assembly: 1. TAKES NOTE with serious concern of the drought situation that is affecting countries in the Horn and Eastern African region and most particularly Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya threatening the lives of millions of peoples and livestock in these countries; 2. UNDERLINES the need to sensitize the international community of the impending crisis situation before its further escalation which would result in the huge lose of lives and displacement of peoples; 3. CALLS UPON the international community and in particular the relevant UN Agencies to render maximum support and assistance to the affected countries with a view to saving human lives and minimizing the effect of the drought on the livelihood of the peoples.
