8.
Urges the UN Security Council to increase the size of MONUC and to provide it
with additional means, to enable it lend a more effective support to the peace process
in the DRC and, in this regard, requests the AU Member States to stand ready to
provide troops to the United Nations in order to strengthen MONUC;
9.
Appeals to the Governments of the region, in particular the DRC and Rwanda,
to work more vigorously towards the promotion of an atmosphere of confidence and
dialogue and the strengthening of their relations, to facilitate the successful conclusion
of the peace process in the DRC and the efforts of the international community to
promote peace and stability in the region. Council urges the parties to scrupulously
comply with the agreements they have signed, including the verification mechanisms
that have been put in place;
10.
Welcomes the decision of the Chairperson of the Commission to dispatch an
Envoy to the DRC and Rwanda and encourages him, in consultation with the
Secretary-General of the United Nations, to take any other initiative he would deem
necessary to overcome the current crisis, including in its humanitarian dimension, and
to facilitate the successful conclusion of the peace process in the DRC.
