PSC/PR/Comm(LXVIII) Page 1 COMMUNIQUE OF THE 68TH MEETING OF THE PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL th The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), at its 68 meeting, held on 14 December 2006, adopted the following decision on “the Establishment of a Coordination and Consultation Mechanism between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Security Council”: Council, 1. Welcomes the Concept Paper proposed to the members of Council by the Arab Republic of Egypt concerning the Establishment of a Coordination and Consultation Mechanism between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Security Council; 2. Takes note of the views expressed by the members of Council regarding the need to undertake wider consultations within the African Union and to examine the legal aspects of the required mechanism with a view to articulating a comprehensive perspective on the way forward concerning the establishment of a mechanism of cooperation and coordination between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Security Council; 3. Requests the African Group in New York to express its views on the proposed mechanism; 4. Requests the Commission to solicit and compile views of the African Union Member States for the future consideration of the Peace and Security Council; 5. Decides to remain actively seized with the matter.
